Three things not mentioned here where Explorer ups GE:

- Explorer can handle large files....try making a kmz from any counties parcel data and load it into Google Earth....it's pathetic.

- Explorer has quering functions from both attributes table and a manual spatial selection now.

- More diversity of basemap content (GE does have the better array of aerials)...like National Geographic and USGS quad basemaps. One of the non-GIS techs at our company was trying to load up a supposed USGS quad kmz one time and I had to leave laughing.

Please im faced with a hectic task here,
Im been asked 2 compare and contrast the role of desktop GIS application such as ESRI ArcGIS and Virtual Globes such as Google maps in any application dormain of my choice.

Im also been asked to explain and exemplify what each form of GIS has been used to do in terms of geodata managment, spatial analysis and Geovisualisation and the socio-technical context that places limitations on their performace!

Kindly assist anyway you can, email ajagunjeremiah@ymail.com

Thanks
