Recently I have been uploading quite a bit of publicly available data from different state operated websites.  Two of the primary sites where I have found an abundance of data are the Florida Geographic Data Library (FDGL) and the District of Columbia Data Catalog.  My last two blogs about Energy Star locations and speeding trap locations in Washington, D.C. was data that I used was from the D.C. Data Catalog.

The FGDL is operated and regularly updated by the University of Florida’s GeoPlan Center, a GIS Research & Teaching Facility.  The FGDL warehouses 350 current GIS layers from 35 local, state, federal, and private agencies.  The content of the data varies from land use, land cover, hydrography, soils, transportation, boundaries, environmental quality, conservation, and census demographics.

I have uploaded a good portion of the FGDL data into Finder! for GeoCommons visitors and Here are two maps that I made in Maker! from the FGDL data:

This map shows the areas along the Florida coastline where there has been critical beach erosion (shown in yellow lines). Click Finder! to view the dataset.

The below map shows different fitness centers and gyms located throughout the state of Florida. This data was also uploaded into Finder! from the FGDL. Click the map to view in Maker! and the individual orange flagged locations to get the name, address, and description of the many fitness centers:
