Dataset of the Day: PASDA Data and Mountain Recreation
The Pennsylvania Spatial Data Access(PASDA) is a data clearinghouse that was started by the Pennsylvania State University. The publicly available geospatial information is easily accessible through Finder and then by creating a new map in Maker you can view the data as layers on a map. Two datasets that interested me as I begun uploading the vast amount of data from PASDA was the different snowmobile trails located in Pennsylvania and the entire length of the Appalachian Trail.
Below shows a map of the different snowmobile trails and if you click the map and zoom in, or out, you can get an idea for where the snowmobile trails are for a fun weekend journey. You may want to hurry though, because it seems the snows started to melt and winter is on its way out.
The Appalachian Trail is a highly trafficked footpath that runs 2,160 miles through the Appalachian ridge line from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine. Below is a map of the entire trail I made in Maker. Ths data was uploaded into Finder from the the PASDA data clearinghouse as well.
