Recently, I happened upon a great site called POIFriend.com, which features points of interest for all sorts of things, such as arts and entertainment, business and industry, food and beverage, etc. from all over the world. All you have to do is search for what you want, select from a list of POIs, and then download in various formats. Since Finder! is Kml compatible, I chose to upload a couple of datasets in that format that really interest me. The first is a kml file of Krispy Kreme locations and the second is local breweries in the United States. Both of these datasets can be found in Geocommons if you want to view the metadata.

I did some fiddling with my favorite desktop mapping application and mapped the intersection of both types of businesses to within one mile, because let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want to be able to walk from a brewery to a donut shop or vice versa, and if you’re eating donuts and drinking beer, you probably don’t want to walk much farther than that.

Below is the map in Maker! of locations of breweries that are within a mile of local Krispy Kremes in the US.
