One of the cool new features in our latest update to GeoCommons is the ability to add temporal visualization to any data set with a time stamp. No extra work is needed. When you get to the end of creating your map GeoCommons will automatically detect if there is a time stamp in the data and give you the option to add a temporal dimension to your data visualization.

If you want to add another data layer and animate it temporally as well – no problem. The data sets will be added into the time slider and it will be re-calibrated to handle the time ranges for both data sets and animate them accordingly. As huge chunks of new data are emerging from the Web with both time and location coordinates we wanted to have a super simple interface for users to interact will all dimensions of the data. So jump into the fourth dimension and upload some new data steams into GeoCommons for temporal visualization and animated fun!

Since Kate is off at the ESRI Dev meet up to show off our new GeoCommons tool bars for ArcGIS and Excel. I thought it would be fun to show her prolific travels across time and space. Start out zoomed into DC then zoom out to see Kate’s global travels.

You mention an excel GC toolbar but I can’t find details anywhere. Google is stumped. Can you provide a URL, or is it alpha only? Thanks!

Hi Tim – thanks for the interest. The Excel toolbar has not been released yet, but we will be pushing it up very soon and will definitely post to the blog for where you can download the plug in as well as access the source code.
